BUCOM’s research laboratories provide access to advanced scientific equipment and specialized workspaces that support coursework, independent projects, and mentored research. Whether conducting molecular analyses, culturing cells, or preparing biological samples, these labs are designed to foster innovative research as well as hands-on teaching and learning. In addition to BUCOM’s on-site capabilities, researchers also have access to the UTHSC Research Core and the UTHSC Lab Animal Care Unit (LACU), further expanding the scope of available resources and support. We encourage all users to take full advantage of these opportunities to enhance both academic and professional development. UTHSC Institutional Research Core

The UT Research Core is accessible to BHSU scholars with a 30% out-of-system surcharge. Contact the office of research for use of UT services.

UTHSC Lab Animal Care Unit (LACU)

The UT LACU is accessible to BHSU scholars with a 30% out-of-system surcharge. Contact the office of research for use of UT services.

 

Available Lab Equipment

  • Molecular and Cell Biology Tools
    QuantStudio real-time PCR machine, Varioskan Lux plate reader, SDS-PAGE and Western blot workflows, and a Countess Cell Counter.
  • Microscopy and Imaging
    Olympus and inverted microscopes for detailed sample analysis.
  • Temperature-Controlled Equipment
    A CO₂ incubator, an egg incubator, a 4°C chromatography refrigerator, -80°C and -20°C freezers, and a bacterial shaker.
  • Sterilization and Water Purification
    Autoclave, Millipore ultrapure water system, and a dishwasher for lab glassware.
  • Safety and Sample Handling
    Biosafety cabinets with vacuum pumps, a chemical fume hood, refrigerated cell culture centrifuge, minicentrifuge, and nanodrop for small-volume sample analysis.
  • Additional Lab Essentials
    Ice machine, platform rocker, pipettors, hot block (dry bath), water baths, microwave, and a precision balance.
