BHSU Joins the Memphis Medical District Collaborative Wellness Festival
On Saturday, September 7th, 2024, the Memphis Medical District Collaborative (MMDC) hosted its annual Wellness Festival at Morris Park, drawing attendees from the surrounding neighborhoods. The event aimed to promote various aspects of mental and physical health, healthy eating, mobility, legal services, and more. Baptist Health Sciences University (BHSU) was proud to participate, joining efforts to spread awareness about wellness education and community health services.
Representing BHSU at the festival were Dr. John C. Biery Jr., DO, Chair and Associate Professor of Osteopathic Principles and Practice at BUCOM; Dr. Amanda L. Robinson, DO, Director of the Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine Clinic at BUCOM; and Allison Flynn, Director of Admissions. Their involvement emphasized the university’s commitment to community engagement and health care education.
Building Community Connections
"Attending the MMDC Wellness Festival is a great way to support our medical district community and share the excitement about the great programs at BHSU," said Dr. Biery. "It’s also an opportunity to build relationships with our partners in the medical district. They walk away with a little something to remind them of all the good stuff going on at BHSU—and don't forget, getting out into the community is a ton of fun!”
Flynn echoed this sentiment, highlighting how events like the Wellness Festival help spread health care education while inspiring future professionals.
“Our presence allows us to connect with the community and inspire the next generation of health care professionals,” Flynn remarked. “It serves as a reminder that education and health care are deeply intertwined, and we aim to empower individuals and organizations alike to pursue growth in these fields. We hope our participation sparked dialogue, collaboration, and greater awareness of the educational pathways available for those interested in health care careers.”
A Proud Partner in the Medical District
BHSU has been a proud partner of the MMDC since its inception, serving as an anchor institution alongside seven other organizations. Collectively, these institutions represent over 23,000 employees, 8,000 students, 310 acres of property, and $2.7 billion in operating budgets. Together, they are helping to shape the future of Memphis’ medical community.
The MMDC Wellness Festival is a perfect reflection of BHSU’s mission to foster community engagement, provide health care education, and support the growth of the medical field. For more information about the Memphis Medical District Collaborative, please visit their website.
