Federal Programs
Programs Available
All federal aid programs require a federal application(FAFSA). Direct and PLUS loans require an additional loan application from a lending institution.
Federal Pell Grants
Grants are awarded to eligible undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor’s degree or professional degree. Eligibility and award amounts are based on financial need.
Subsidized Federal Direct Loans
Low-interest loans to the student by approved lending institutions. Eligibility for subsidized Direct loans is based on financial need. Interest is paid during enrollment by the Federal Government. A loan application is required.
Unsubsidized Federal Direct Loans
Low-interest loans to the student by approved lending institutions. Eligibility for unsubsidized Direct loans is not based on financial need. Interest is charged to the borrower throughout the life of the loan. A loan application is required.
Federal PLUS Loan
(Made to the parent) Long-term, low-interest loans made to parent(s) of dependent students by approved lending institutions. A loan application is required.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants
Campus-based grants awarded to eligible undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor’s degree or professional degree. Eligibility and award amounts are based on financial need. Priority in awarding FSEOG funds is given to students who have exceptional financial need and are Federal Pell Grant recipients.
