Current Students

Selection for each academic award or scholarship will be based on specific criteria as outlined within the links below. All applicants must complete the Baptist Health Sciences University Application for Grants and Scholarships and the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) by March 1st in order to be considered for the upcoming academic year beginning with the Fall trimester. The Baptist Health Sciences University's School Code to be used on the Federal Application is 034403.

Scholarships

Elizabeth Farnell Scholarships

The Elizabeth Farnell scholarship was established in honor of Elizabeth Farnell, R.N., who retired in 1987 after more than 20 years of service to the Baptist Memorial Hospital system.
Eligibility requirements include:  

  • Cumulative Baptist University GPA of at least a 3.5

  • Junior or senior enrolled in clinical courses

  • Nursing major

  • Demonstrated financial need

Annual dollar value: $6,000 ($3,000 fall and spring)
Recipient will be required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of a 3.5 at Baptist University. This is a one-year award.

Dr. Ling H. Lee Memorial Scholarship

Established by the Lee family in memory of Dr. Ling H. Lee, who was a noted Radiologist with Baptist Memorial Hospital, this annual scholarship is awarded to a radiological sciences student based on academic merit and financial need.
Eligibility requirements include:

  • Cumulative Baptist University GPA of at least a 3.50
  • Junior or senior enrolled in clinical courses
  • Radiology major students only
  • Demonstrate financial need

Annual dollar value: $6,000 ($3,000 fall and spring)
Recipient will be required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of a 3.5 at Baptist University. This is a one-year award.

Beverly Jordan Nursing Scholarship

Established by BMHCC Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, Beverly Jordan, this endowment funds the Beverly Jordan Nursing Education Scholarship. First awarded in the fall of 2011, Ms. Jordan established this scholarship in honor of all Baptist nurses – past, present, and future – who impact patients and families through the professional practice of nursing. Ms. Jordan is a 1977 alumna of the former Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.
Eligibility requirements include:

  • Cumulative Baptist University GPA of at least a 3.5
  • Senior enrolled in clinical courses
  • Nursing majors
  • Recommendation letter from a clinical instructor
  • An essay telling the story of your impact on a patient and family centered care experience
  • Demonstrated financial need

Annual dollar value: $5,000 ($2,500 fall and spring)
Recipient will be required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of a 3.5 at Baptist University. This is a one-year award.

Smith & Nephew/Jack R. Blair Scholarship

Established by Smith & Nephew, N.A. Inc. in honor of Mr. Blair’s retirement, this scholarship is awarded to a Baptist Health Sciences University student based on academic achievement, expressed professional goals, community service, and financial need.

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Cumulative Baptist University GPA of at least a 3.5
  • Available for students enrolled in all majors
  • Demonstrated financial need

Annual dollar value: $3,500 ($1,750 fall and spring)
Recipient will be required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of a 3.5 at Baptist University. This is a one-year award.

St. Joseph Hospital Scholarship

Established by the Sisters of St. Francis in honor of St. Joseph School of Nursing Alumni.
Eligibility requirements include:

  • Cumulative Baptist University GPA of at least a 3.25
  • Nursing majors
  • Demonstrated financial need

Annual dollar value: $4,000 ($2,000 fall and spring)
Recipient will be required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of a 3.25 at Baptist University. This is a one-year award.

Smith & Nephew/Dr. Robert Tooms Scholarship

Established by Smith & Nephew, N.A. Inc. in honor of Dr. Robert Tooms,a prominent Memphis orthopedic surgeon, who retired in 1994. This scholarship is awarded to a Baptist Health Sciences University student based on academic achievement, expressed professional goals, community service.
Eligibility requirements include:

  • Cumulative Baptist University GPA of at least a 3.25
  • Available for students enrolled in all majors

Annual dollar value: $3,500 ($1,750 fall and spring)
Recipient will be required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 at Baptist University. This is a one-year award.

Myra Whitaker Maybee Nursing Scholarship

Established in memory of Mrs. Myra Whitaker Maybee, a graduate of the Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, this annual scholarship is awarded to a student interested in preoperative nursing based on academic merit.
Eligibility requirements include:

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.25
  • Interested in preoperative nursing
  • Must be interested in perioperative nursing 
  • Priority given to students from rural communities

Annual dollar value: $3,250 ($1,625 fall and spring)
Recipient will be required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of a 3.20at Baptist University. This is a one-year award.

Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation Scholarships

Established by the Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation, these awards are granted based on academic achievement, professional goals, and community service.
Eligibility requirements include:

  • Cumulative Baptist University GPA of at least a 3.25
  • Available to students in all majors

Annual dollar value: $3,000 ($1,500 fall and spring)

Each recipient will be required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 at Baptist University, and complete 20 hours of documented community service. This is a one-year award.

Follett Scholarship

This scholarship is established by a generous donation from the Follett Corporation. The Follett Corporation is an Illinois-based company committed to helping educators and students throughout the United States and the world. In the United States, they impact education in all 50 states, reach more than 110,000 schools and university campuses and provide products and services for millions of academicians and students. Follett, located in the Annex, provides bookstore services for Baptist University and provides the funding for this generous academic scholarship.  
Eligibility requirements include:

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.25
  • Any major

Annual dollar value: $2,000 ($1,000 fall and spring)
Recipient will be required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 at Baptist University. This is a one-year award.

Carol Paterson Memorial Nursing Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Denise Burnett of O.R. Nurses, Inc. in memory of her late business partner, Carol J. Paterson.
Eligibility requirements include:  

  • Cumulative Baptist University GPA of at least a 3.00
  • Senior enrolled in clinical courses
  • Nursing major

Annual dollar value: $1,500 ($750 fall and spring)
Recipient will be required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 at Baptist University. This is a one-year award.

Carol Paterson Memorial Allied Health Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Denise Burnett of O.R. Nurses, Inc. in memory of her late business partner, Carol J. Paterson.
Eligibility requirements include:

  • Cumulative Baptist University GPA of at least a 3.00
  • Senior enrolled in clinical courses
  • Allied Health major

Annual dollar value: $1,500 ($750 fall and spring)
Recipient will be required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 at Baptist University. This is a one-year award.
 

HealthNet Federal Credit Union Scholarship

This scholarship is a gift from HealthNet Federal Credit Union. HealthNet has been providing financial services to the employees and families of the health care community since 1955.
Eligibility requirements include:

  • Cumulative Baptist University GPA of at least a 3.00
  • Member of relative of credit union
  • Available to students in all majors

Annual dollar value: $1,000 ($500 disbursed fall and spring)
Recipient will be required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 at Baptist University. This is a one-year award.

Matthew Hindman Memorial Pediatric Scholarship

The Matthew Hindman Memorial Pediatric Nursing Scholarship was established by the Hindman Family in memory of Matthew, who was born in 1996 with a rare disorder called Moebius Syndrome. Matthew passed away at the age of 5 on December 30, 2001.
Eligibility requirements include:

  • Cumulative Baptist University GPA of at least a 3.00
  • Must be interested in pediatrics and completed adult II
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Nursing majors

Annual dollar value: $1,000 ($500 disbursed fall and spring)
Recipient will be required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 at Baptist University. This is a one-year award

Denese Shumaker Scholarship

The Denese Shumaker Scholarship was established by the Baptist Memorial Health Care system upon her retirement in recognition of her commitment to the nursing profession as a practitioner, an educator, a community leader, and a mentor to countless nursing students and colleagues.
Eligibility requirements include:

  • Cumulative Baptist University GPA of at least a 3.0
  • Junior or senior enrolled in clinical courses
  • Available for nursing majors

Annual dollar value: $500 ($250 disbursed fall and spring)
Recipient will be required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 at Baptist University. This is a one-year award.

Nursing Alumni Scholarships

Established by alumni of Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, these scholarships are awarded annually to students based on financial need and professional goals as supported by an essay.  
Eligibility requirements include:

  • Cumulative Baptist University GPA of at least a 2.75
  • Generic junior or senior nursing student enrolled in clinical courses
  • Demonstrated financial need

Annual dollar value: $1,000 ($500 fall and spring)
Each recipient will be required to maintain a 2.75 cumulative grade point average at Baptist University. This is a one-year award.

Allied Health Alumni Scholarships

Established by allied health alumni, these scholarships are awarded annually to students based on financial need and professional goals as supported by an essay.
Eligibility requirements include:

  • Cumulative Baptist University GPA of at least a 2.75
  • Generic allied health student enrolled in clinical
  • Allied health courses
  • Demonstrated financial need

Annual dollar value: $1,000 ($500 fall and spring)
Each recipient will be required to maintain a 2.75 cumulative grade point average at Baptist University. This is a one-year award.

Lula Curtis Scott Scholarship

Established to honor Ms. Lula Curtis Scott, a longtime faculty member of the Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.  
Eligibility requirements include:

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 scale
  • Available for nursing majors

Annual dollar value: $500 ($250 fall and spring)
Recipient will be required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of a 2.75 at Baptist University. This is a one-year award.

Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation Grant

The Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation is a charitable private foundation dedicated to the support of deserving female students. Multiple awards are granted annually to students who meet criteria established by the foundation.

Tennessee Education Scholarships (TELS)

The Tennessee Educational Lottery Scholarship Program (TELS) is comprised of several awards. Four of these may be used to defray educational expenses at Baptist Health Sciences University (Baptist University). Students at Baptist University may be eligible for the Hope Scholarship and either the Aspire Award or the General Assembly Merit Scholarship or the HOPE Access Grant.
