Freshmen

Selection for each academic award or scholarship will be based on specific criteria as outlined below. All applicants must complete the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) and be accepted into Baptist University by March 1st in order to be considered for the upcoming academic year beginning with the fall trimester. The Baptist Health Sciences University’ School Code to be used on the Federal Application is 034403.

Scholarships

Joseph Powell Scholarships

Established by the Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation in honor of Joseph Powell, President Emeritus of Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation.
Eligibility requirements include:

  • High school GPA of at least a 3.5, 26 ACT
  • Meet all regular admissions requirements
  • Available to students in all majors 

Annual dollar value: $10,000 ($5,000 fall and spring)
Total award value: $40,000

Each recipient will be required to maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average at Baptist University, and complete 40 documented hours of community service annually. Renewal up to four years if the recipient successfully completes all renewal criteria.

Ruby Turrell Scholarship

Established by Ruby Turrell, this scholarship is awarded to a high school student seeking a nursing degree.
Eligibility requirements include:

  • High school GPA - 3.25, 24 ACT
  • Meet all regular admissions requirements
  • Nursing major students only

Annual dollar value: $8,000 ($4,000 fall and spring)
Total award value: $32,000

Recipient will be required to maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average at Baptist University, and complete 40 documented hours of community service annually. Renewal up to four years if the recipient successfully completes all renewal criteria.

Lloyd Barker Scholarship

Eligibility requirements include:

  • High school GPA of 3.25, 24 ACT
  • Meet all regular admissions requirements
  • Available to all majors

Annual dollar value: $6,250 ($3,125 fall and spring)
Total award value: $25,000

St. Joseph Hospital Scholarship

Established by the Sisters of St. Francis in honor of St. Joseph School of Nursing Alumni.
Eligibility requirements include:

  • High school GPA of at least a 3.25, 22 ACT
  • Meet all regular admissions requirements
  • Nursing major students only
  • Demonstrated financial need

Annual dollar value: $8,000 ($4,000 fall and spring)
Total award value: $32,000

Each recipient will be required to maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average at Baptist University, and complete 40 documented hours of community service annually. Renewal up to four years if the recipient successfully completes all renewal criteria.

Donald and Lynn Pounds Scholarship

Eligibility requirements include:

  • High school GPA of 3.25, 22 ACT
  • Meet all regular admissions requirements
  • Any major

Annual dollar value: $1,500 ($750 fall and spring)

Each recipient will be required to maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average at Baptist University. This is a one-year award.

Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation Scholarships

Established by the Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation.
Eligibility requirements include:

  • High school GPA of at least a 3.00, 22 ACT
  • Meet all regular admissions requirements
  • Available to students in all majors

Annual dollar value: $3,000 ($1,500 fall and spring)

Each recipient will be required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 at Baptist University. This is a one-year award.

Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation Grant

The Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation is a charitable private foundation dedicated to the support of deserving female students. Multiple awards are granted annually to students who meet criteria established by the foundation.

  • No essay is required.

Tennessee Education Scholarships (TELS)

The Tennessee Educational Lottery Scholarship Program (TELS) includes of several awards. Four of these may be used to defray educational expenses at Baptist Health Sciences University. Students at Baptist University may be eligible for the Hope Scholarship and either the Aspire Award or the General Assembly Merit Scholarship or the HOPE Access Grant.

Tennessee Promise

Tennessee Promise is only available to Baptist University students who are admitted into an associate degree program.  Additionally, TN Promise will only pay the equivalent rate of a community college – it will not cover Baptist University tuition.  Please visit TN.gov/collegepays for more information.
