BHSU Professor Celebrates Five Years of Helping Nursing Students with Scholarship Program

Assistant Professor of Nursing at Baptist Health Sciences University Felicia Cobbs, MSN, RN, started the nonprofit organization Better Woman Better Wife in 2018 to award scholarships to deserving nursing students facing financial hardships in the Mid-South. This year, Felicia is celebrating the organization’s five-year anniversary by awarding five nursing students a $1,000 scholarship each.

“I have walked in the same shoes as these students,” said Felicia. “In a time where nursing is facing a shortage and students are struggling to afford school, I’m honored to fill in the gap and pass on the blessing I received to other Baptist Health Sciences University students.”

Felicia has 12 years of experience working as a registered nurse, part of that time at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto. She graduated from high school as a single mother and couldn’t afford higher education. When she was in her mid-30s, Felicia received a grant allowing her to go to college. That gift inspired her to create her own nonprofit.

Better Woman Better Wife has given more than $12,000 in scholarships since it started. Funds for the scholarships come from donations given to the nonprofit.
