"Out of the Darkness Walk": BHSU Active Minds Supports Community's Mental Health

Out of the Darkness Walk

Baptist University's Active Minds organization participated in the Memphis Out of the Darkness Community Walk on October 22, 2023. The walk aimed to raise awareness about the issue of suicide and support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

"Participating as a BHSU student in the Out of the Darkness Walk was an awesome experience,” states student Jasimen H., president of BHSU Active Minds. “The speakers were truly enlightening, the warm and welcoming atmosphere was comforting, and watching everyone blow bubbles together was a symbolic gesture in our shared journey to raise awareness about suicide and mental health."

Our Active Minds group has been participating in this walk since 2018, and we were proud to be a part of this important event again this year. The walk brought together people from the community who have been affected by suicide or mental health issues, and it provided an opportunity to share their stories and show support for one another. Our group was inspired by the sense of community and hope that the event created, and we look forward to participating in future walks to continue raising awareness against suicide.
