Shekher Mohan Appointed as Associate Dean of Research and Scholarly Activity
Dr. Peter Bell, Vice Provost and Dean of BUCOM, recently announced the appointment of Dr. Shekher Mohan, Ph.D. as the new Associate Dean of Research and Scholarly Activity. Dr. Mohan has been a valued member of BUCOM since November 2023, serving as an Associate Professor of Pharmacology and Director of Sponsored Programs. Most recently, he served as the Interim Associate Dean of Research, where he demonstrated his ability to lead and inspire innovative research initiatives.
Academic and Research Excellence
Dr. Mohan earned his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Oklahoma State University and a B.Sc. (Hons) in Pharmacology from the University of Hertfordshire in the UK. His research expertise spans a wide array of areas, including neuroimmune systems, inflammation, and neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS), where he has contributed significantly through impactful peer-reviewed publications, national and international presentations, and the mentorship of emerging scholars.
He has been awarded multiple grants and funding for his work, reflecting his commitment to advancing biomedical research. Dr. Mohan’s focus on interdisciplinary collaboration has fostered partnerships across academic institutions, government organizations, and industry, further strengthening the research infrastructure at BUCOM.
Leadership and Mentorship
In addition to his academic and research achievements, Dr. Mohan is a certified leader with credentials from the University of California, Davis Graduate School of Management and the John Maxwell Leadership Certification Program. His passion for mentorship is evident in his dedication to empowering students and faculty to achieve their potential in research and scholarly endeavors.
Dr. Mohan has established himself as a champion for professional development, diversity, equity, and inclusion, helping guide students and colleagues toward meaningful contributions in the medical and scientific fields.

Outside academia, Dr. Mohan enjoys exploring the great outdoors through hiking and traveling. As a sports enthusiast, he follows basketball, soccer, and cricket, and his adventurous spirit as a foodie leads him to discover diverse cuisines. To unwind, he enjoys sci-fi movies, comedy shows, and spending time with family and friends.
