BUCOM Hosts Inaugural Research Collaborative
Baptist Health Sciences University College of Osteopathic Medicine (BUCOM) hosted their first Research Collaborative on September 25, 2023. Faculty from BUCOM as well as other colleges of the University were invited to present their research interests to the BHSU community.
This quarterly Collaborative meeting is being initiated to not only share ideas, but to also spark collaborations between faculty members and divisions.
Presentations included research interests in a variety of areas including the biomedical sciences, health sciences education, and population health. Topics included cancer biology and therapeutic development, developmental biology, COVID-19 contact tracing and epidemiology, hydrotherapy, endothelial biology, and osteopathic manipulative therapy.

Dr. Troy Camarata – Research interests in kidney physiology, comparative embryology, medical education, and population health
Dr. Abbes Belkhiri – The role of AXL receptor tyrosine kinase in esophageal adenocarcinoma
Dr. Larissa Collier – Social science research programs involving community violence, Medical education research on proactive education intervention programs
Dr. Marcy Purnell (Division of Nursing) – Physiological and cellular outcomes to hydrotherapy treatment in health and disease
Dr. John Biery – Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment in health and disease, medical education research interests in curriculum development
Dr. Christina Davis – Seeking collaborators with her broad laboratory and excellent research skill set
Dr. Lilian Nyindodo – Characteristics and Outcomes of COVID-19 Patients: Initial Peak and Resurgence in the Mid-south United States, and population health research interests into the social determinants of health/economic hardship index in Shelby County
Dr. Audrey Vasauskas – Pulmonary endothelial dysfunction in COVID-19 and pulmonary arterial hypertension, and medical education/wellness research interests
