BUCOM Makes Advances at International Conference

OIA Member Countries 2023 June

Last week, Dr. Peter Bell, dean of medical education and vice provost at Baptist Health Science University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, attended the Osteopathic International Alliance’s 2023 Annual General Meeting and Conference in London. Dr. Bell was among 400 attendees representing other colleges of osteopathic medicine, practicing DOs and PhDs and the World Health Organization.

The three-day conference included educational sessions and several tracks with sessions on research, DO regulations in UK and US and cancer treatments to name a few.

“The BUCOM vision statement states that we strive to be distinguished regionally, nationally, and globally for excellence and innovation in osteopathic medical health education, which prepares graduates to transform health care through exceptional patient-centered care,” said Dr. Bell. “My main goal for the conference was to build and maintain professional relationships while sharing the great things we have coming at BUCOM for next year,” he added.

This year marks the 20th time the conference has been held.  The OIA is the leading organization for the advancement and unity of the global osteopathic profession, according to its site. It was admitted into official relations with the World Health Organization in 2018. More than 74 organizations from 21 countries are part of the OIA. Dr. Bell worked to add BUCOM to the global stage of medical schools by making its presence known at the conference.
