At the beginning of each academic year, Baptist Health Sciences University has a few faculty and staff kick off traditions before we welcome students on campus. On Tuesday, August 27th we held the annual University Gathering to kick off the 2024-2025 Academic Year. We welcomed 59 new people who have joined the university since September 1st of last year.

The theme this year was Let’s Make a Deal: To Be a Top Dog. Faculty and staff were encouraged to dress as their best costume for a chance to win prizes. The crowd voted on the best dressed and awarded the 2024 Spirit Stick to Director of Admissions, Allison Flynn.

In addition to the costumes, games were played to encourage everyone to get to know one another, and awards were presented to recognize outstanding participation and teamwork. The PawSome Bowl was awarded to Database Administrator David Drummond, celebrating his exceptional spirit and contributions. The Best Teamwork Award was given to the Security team, acknowledging their collaborative efforts and dedication.

One of the highlights of the event was the unveiling of the University verse of the year by Karen Smith, Director of Faith and Service and Chaplain. The chosen verse, Romans 12:4-5: "For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one," beautifully captures our unity in diversity. This verse serves as a reminder of our collective mission and the importance of each individual’s unique contributions to the university community.

God's Blessings

Love the Lord you God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it:  Love your neighbor as yourself.
