Successful BHSU Student Hiring Event Helps Fill Baptist Positions
Baptist hosted a hiring event for Baptist Health Sciences University students on Wednesday, March 22. Nearly 70 students attended the event, held in the Campus Hub Atrium and Library. Baptist extended multiple job offers to students during and after the event. Some students also applied for positions at Baptist after attending the hiring event.
“Baptist University students have the opportunity to start a career with Baptist as a part-time employee while they finish their degree or as a future graduate,” said Donna Robinson, director of talent acquisition and allied health professionals with Baptist Employment Services. “At the event, students had the opportunity to meet with us and learn how to optimize their earning potential.”
Employment Services joined with Baptist University to help students identify opportunities within Baptist. Students can benefit from having this special access to Baptist, one of the largest not-for-profit health care systems in the country. In addition to the hiring events, Employment Services also reaches out to Baptist University students during their new student orientation and for class visits.
At the event, Employment Services assisted students with the application process, conducted introductory screenings and introduced students to hiring managers. Recruiters provided honor-based salary quotes and extended contingent offers when applicable. Trent Riden, director of Employee Health, and his team conducted health evaluations and drug screenings.
Representatives from several entities participated in the event, including Baptist University, Baptist Medical Group, Baptist Collierville, Baptist Crittenden, Baptist DeSoto, Baptist Memphis and Baptist Women’s Hospital.
A number of positions are available to Baptist University students following their graduation. Opportunities include the following:
- Registered Nurse
- Respiratory Therapist
- Radiology Technologist
- Medical Technologist
- Surgical Technologist
- Sonographer
Several positions can be filled by students before they graduate, including:
- Patient Care Technician (PCT)
- Personal Care Assistant (PCA)
- Health Unit Coordinator

- Administrative Assistant
- Secretary
- Technician – Materials Management
- Representative – Admissions (non-certified)
- Customer Service Representative – Teleservices
- Patient Transporter
“Hosting this event on campus created a streamlined process to promote appropriate jobs for which students could apply, and then interview them and make potential offers. We retained the contact information for interested students for continued outreach and follow-up,” said Donna.
Zac Cox, relationship marketing coordinator at Baptist University, said that students were very grateful the hiring event was held on campus.
“They thanked us for bringing Baptist to them because they’re so busy with classes and clinicals, and most of them have jobs outside of school. They don’t have time to go to job fairs at hospitals, but they can take time between classes to talk with potential employers who are on-site,” said Zac.
Roshanda Daniel, internship coordinator for Blue Healer Student Success Center (BHSSC), was available to review resumes with students and inform them of resources available at BHSSC.
Each Baptist entity is invited to participate in the student hiring events, which will be held twice a year. Employment Services is working with Human Resources at Baptist University to conduct a survey of student participants to gain insight into their experiences at the hiring event.
Employment Services is using many tools to recruit new team members for Baptist, including social media campaigns, Google ads, Intelligent Messaging, text engagement, HireVue digital interview platform, direct mail, job fairs, direct outreach by Engagement Specialists, and networking events hosted by the Memphis Chamber of Commerce. Recruiters also conduct class visits at area colleges and universities. The upcoming Black Men in White Coats event will also assist Baptist with recruiting.
